Judge's Critiques

 

A huge thank you to the committee for their warm welcome and their kind invitation to judge at their open show and the exhibitors for bringing such quality labradors to assess, I thoroughly enjoyed the appointment. Thank you also to my stewards who kept the ring running smoothly.

Minor Puppy Dog (2, 0 abs) 1. Mckee & Evans’ Eastdew Frankfurter (Best Puppy Dog), 8 month old yellow balanced puppy with a lovely shaped head, kind eye and good pigmentation. Good front angulation, topline and nice tight feet, moved well.  2. McKee’s Eastdew Chipolata, 8 month old pale yellow puppy, another lovely puppy, litter brother to 1.  Nice proportioned head and expression.  A tad longer in body than 1, good length of leg and nice tight feet. Moved OK when settled, just preferred the overall balance of 1.

Puppy Dog (1, 1 abs)

Junior Dog (4, 1 abs) 1. Evans’ Trendlewood Long Time Comin, 13 month old pale yellow balanced happy youngster with a well proportioned head, eye shape, good length of muzzle and pigmentation creating such a lovely kind expression. Good reach of neck leading into a level topline, standing on a nice length of leg.  Good coat of correct texture, moved well.  2. Price’s Rowanhol Obiwan Kenobi, 14 month old black happy boy, smaller in frame than 1.  Lovely proportioned head, nice shaped eye and ear set, good reach of neck and topline, moved OK.  3. Price’s Rowanhol Rio Grande.

Novice Dog (2, 1 abs) Snelgrove & Priddice’s Atkeenthorne Lord Pud of Duskmeadow, 5 year old enthusiastic balanced black boy of good size. Lovely proportioned head and good length of muzzle. Good front and layback of shoulder leading into level topline. In good coat and condition, moved OK.

Undergraduate Dog (2, 1 abs) 1. Foster’s Rochevale Beal, 13 month old yellow youngster with a lovely moulded head and good length of muzzle, a kind eye and good pigmentation creating a lovely expression. Good front angulation, nice length of leg and nice tight feet. In good coat, moved OK.

Graduate Dog (4, 1 abs) 1. Perkins’ McFarwin’s Grey Legacy by Keeninspires, 17 month old balanced yellow, nice proportioned masculine head with a nice shaped kind eye and good pigmentation. Good length of leg with nice tight feet and good rear angulation, good coat and condition, moved well.  2. Chapman’s Daisypatch Annie’s Boy, 2 year old balanced yellow, with lovely masculine head, nice shaped eye creating a melting expression. Nice reach of neck, good front angulation, good length of leg to body ratio, nice tight feet, well wrapped ‘otter’ tail. In good coat and condition, moved well. 3. James’ Farnfield Goosebumps at Tazlyn.

Post Graduate Dog (4, 1 abs) 1. Braddon’s Trendlewood One More Time (Best Dog), almost 3 year old yellow balanced boy who really caught my eye. Nice masculine proportioned head with a good length of muzzle creating a kind expression. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders, level topline and good tail set. Good spring of rib, good rear angulation and nice tight feet. In good condition, moved well.  2. Perkins’ McFarwin’s Grey Legacy by Keeninspires – 1st Graduate Dog. 3. Moody’s Trendlewood Ebony And Ivory.

Limit Dog (4, 1 abs). 1. Chapman’s Daisypatch Jelly Tot JW (Reserve Best Dog), 6 year old balanced compact darker yellow boy. A lovely masculine well proportioned head with a nice length of muzzle creating the kindest of expressions. Good reach of neck, good front and rear angulation. In really good condition, moved well.  2. Collins’ Ramsayville Right On Time For Kaspair, 5 year old yellow boy of good substance. Different type to 1, built on a bigger frame and longer cast in body. Lovely masculine head with a good length of muzzle and nice set ears creating a lovely expression. Good front and rear angulation, moved well.  3. Essenhigh & Bishop’s Brynlluan Midnight Star.

Veteran Dog/Bitch (9, 3 abs) 1. Minchella’s Abbeystead Hope (Best Veteran In Show), 7 year old black bitch, such a beautiful type, nothing exaggerated. Classic head, well proportioned and lovely eye shape creating such a willing to please intelligent expression. Nice reach of neck, good length of leg to body ratio, moved well.  2. Evans’ Farnfield Clarity, 7 year old yellow bitch, different type to 1. A lovely compact balanced bitch with a beautiful head, good length of muzzle, kind eye, nice ear set creating a melting expression. Nice reach of neck, level topline, good front and rear angulation. In really good condition, moved and handled well.  3. Collins’ Carromer Worth A Glance At Kaspair.

Baby Puppy Dog/Bitch (2, 0 abs) 1. King’s Claychalk Costa Crypto For Mikmaqlabs, 4 month old sweet happy balanced chocolate bitch. Lovely proportioned head with a good reach of neck and good front angulation, level topline and tail set. Good coat, moved well, pleased to award her Best Baby Puppy in Show.  2. Snelgrove & Priddice’s Little Black Pud Of Duskmeadow, 5 month old black bitch, built on a bigger frame than 1. Lovely proportioned head and eye shape, good topline and tail set and good coat. Preferred movement and togetherness of 1.

Minor Puppy Bitch (2, 1 abs) 1. Jones’ Serengoch’s Calistoga, 7 month old happy balanced chocolate bitch with a lovely proportioned head with a good length of muzzle and good eye colour creating a kind expression. Has a lovely reach of neck leading into a level topline and tailset. Good rear quarter and good coat, moved well.

Puppy Bitch (2, 0 abs) 1. Braddon’s Trendlewood It Takes Two (Best Puppy In Show), 11 month old balanced chocolate bitch with a lovely proportioned head, good length of muzzle, lovely eye creating a sweet expression. Good front and rear quarters, level topline and tail set standing on a good length of leg, moved well. Such a happy show girl.  2. Perkins’ Keeninspires Countess, 10 month chocolate with a lovely shaped head and nice eye shape. Lovely reach of neck and, good length of leg with nice tight feet. Longer in body than 1, just preferred the overall balance and movement of 1.

Junior Bitch (3, 0 abs) .1. Goodwin’s McFarwins Flashing Lights, 17 month old balanced yellow with such a lovely clean outline. Such a beautiful feminine head with a kind eye creating a melting expression.  Lovely reach of neck leading into level topline and tail set and good rear angulation, moved well. Really pleased to hear this placing gave her the final point for a Junior Warrant. 2. Jones’ Serengoch’s Knockin Boots, 17 month old chocolate. Another lovely balanced bitch with a nice shaped head, good length of muzzle and eye colour.  Good front and rear quarters, level topline and good length of leg, moved well. Just preferred the head on 1.  3. Price’s Rowanhol Seven Wonders.

Yearling Bitch (1, 0 abs) 1. Goodwin’s McFarwins Flashing Lights, 1st Junior Bitch.

Novice Bitch (3, 1 abs) 1. Braddon’s Trendlewood It Takes Two, 1st Puppy Bitch. .2. Goodwin’s Carpenny Frieda, 5 year old balanced yellow with a lovely feminine head and intelligent expression. Nice reach of neck, level topline, good spring of rib and good rear quarters, good length of leg, moved well.

Undergraduate Bitch (4, 2 abs) 2 lovely blacks in this class of different types. 1. Philips’ Brynlluan Ballerina At Sheenaron, black with a beautiful head and expression, lovely reach of neck, good turn of stifle, good length of leg, moved well.  2. Tatchell’s Smokeycot Perfect Dream, heavier type than 1. Lovely head with a kind eye and expression. Good rear quarters, nice tight feet and ‘otter’ tail. In good coat and condition, moved well.

Graduate Bitch (7, 4 abs) 1. Kent’s Trewinnard Bespoke (Best In Show, Best Bitch), 4 year old, quality yellow who caught my eye as soon as she walked in the ring. Stunning head - lovely eye shape, ear set, length of muzzle and good pigmentation creating such a melting and kind expression. Nicely put together with a good reach of neck, top line and good front and rear angulation. Good length of leg in proportion to her body and nice tight feet. In good coat and condition, moved very well.  2. Harrison’s Likav Accolade, 4 year old well made girl with a nice feminine proportional head. Slightly longer in body than 1. Good front angulation and level topline, moved OK.  3. Jones’ Serengoch’s Chevrolet (A.I.).

Post Graduate Bitch (8, 2 abs) 1. Collins’ Foxrush Joyfull JW, 2 year old well constructed balanced two year old yellow. Nice feminine head with a broad skull and good length of muzzle. Good reach of neck into well placed shoulders, nice depth of chest, level topline and good rear angulation. In good condition with a harsh double coat, moved well.  2. Philips’ Rochevale Gypsy At Sheenaron, lovely 2 year old balanced well constructed yellow with a slightly smaller frame than 1. Lovely proportional head with a nice eye shape, good pigmentation creating a soft and willing to please expression. Nice topline and tail set, good length of leg and nice tight feet. In good condition, moved well, just preferred overall movement of 1.  3. Braddon’s Tiger Lilly.

Limit Bitch (2, 0 abs) 2 lovely bitches in this class. 1.. Miles’ Llanstinan Fancypants, well constructed 3 year old balanced black. Lovely feminine head with a good length of muzzle creating a kind expression. Good reach of neck, nice depth of chest with an excellent spring of rib.  In super coat and condition, moved well.  2. Mills’ Trendlewood Day Dreaming 6 year old pale yellow of a lovely type.  Nice proportional feminine head with a good length of muzzle. Nice reach of neck, topline and tail set; and good rear angulation. Moved and handled well, unfortunately not in the best of jackets.

Open Bitch (6, 2 abs) 1. Minchella’s Sh Ch Abbeystead Psion Of Haslorhill (Reserve Best In Show, Reserve Best Bitch), Classic balanced 6 year old black, such a clean outline from head to tail. Feminine proportional head that is so beautiful. Super reach of neck that flowed into topline. Well angulated front, good length of leg and tight feet. In super condition, harsh coat and ‘otter’ tail, moved well.  2. Evans’ R Ch Eminala Star Struck Farnfield, 3 year old lovely feminine head with a melting expression and used her ears well. Excellent reach of neck leading into well placed shoulders, level top line and good turn of stifle. Nice tight feet, in good coat, moved and handled well.   3. Evan’s Brynlluan Black Diamond At Bowsian.

Brace Dog/Bitch (1, 0 abs) Tatchell’s Smokeycot Keepsake & Smokeycot Ebony Daydreamer - black pair of 2 lovely bitches. Moved very well together and so well co-ordinated with their handler.
