Judge's Critiques

 

I would like to start by thanking the committee for the opportunity to judge at my first breed show. The Labrador Club of Wales will always be a memorable show for me, as it was this show that started my junior handling career. I would also like to thank my stewards for their support and efforts to make things run smoothly. I was very pleased with the entry and final line up, BIS Peggs’ Jancet Aurora, RBIS Coode’s Warringah’s Gulwarra J.W., S.G.W.C., BOS Meredith’s Tweedledum Off the Record, BPIS Metcalfe’s Baileydale Puff Daddy and BVIS Harvey Major’s Sh.Ch. Linjor Cassanova J.W., Sh.C.M.

DOGS:

Minor Puppy: (2,0) 1st Metcalfe’s Baileydale Puff Daddy BPD, BPIS, 7 month old black, handsome head with kind eye, good depth of chest and spring of rib, well matured for a youngster, good angles through front and rear, tight feet, in lovely coat and condition, moved freely. 2nd Evans’ Eminala Bohemian Rhapsody, 6 month old yellow, attractive head with dark pigmentation, good reach of neck into nicely angled front, correct turn of stifle, in good coat and nicely shaped otter tail, moved out well for a puppy, just not as mature as 1 today.

Puppy: (1,0) 1st Braddon’s Trendlewood The Man. 10 month old yellow, still quite a raw baby that needs to fill into his frame, head with gentle expression, good pigmentation, well developed bone with nice tight feet, very good angles to the rear, moved well.

Junior: (4,1) 1st Braddon’s Trendlewood Superstition. 15 month old black, attractive head with kind expression, well balanced for a young dog, good reach of neck into well placed shoulder, barrel rib, level topline which he kept on the move, good coat and condition, moved freely. 2nd Price’s Penew Running Man for Rowhanol. 18 month old pale yellow, masculine head, deep through front and chest, well laid shoulders, good turn of stifle and second thigh, moved well, just preferred balance of 1 today. 3rd Moody’s Trendlewood Ebony and Ivory.

Yearling: (3,1) 1st Harvey Major’s Linjor Winter Frost. 23 month old, lovely dark yellow with masculine head, good angles through front and rear, deep through chest and brisket, lovely otter tail and good feet, in great condition, moved well. 2nd Davey’s Southridge Ricochet. 18 month old black, handsome head with nice dark eye, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, level topline which he kept on the move, good turn of stifle, preferred the depth and maturity of 1.

Undergraduate: (2,0) 1st Quick and James’ Farnfield Crown Jewels. 2 ½ year old black, handsome dog, very mature and deep through chest and rib, level topline kept on the move and strong hindquarters, gave a striking outline, in very good coat and condition. 2nd Phillips’ Bowsian Dancing brave at Sheenaron. 15 month old yellow, attractive head and good pigmentation, lovely reach of neck into flowing topline, well angled rear with nice bone, in good coat, moved well, preferred the feet and maturity of 1.

Graduate: (1,0) 1st White’s Serengoch Lincoln Gyda at Argishalee. 2 ½ year old chocolate, dark in colour, masculine head, nicely shaped body, correct turn of stifle, in very good coat, moved well when settled.

Post graduate: (1,0) 1st Coode’s Warringah’s The Bluff J.W., RBD. 2 ½ year old black, lovely kind head with gentle expression, well angled front and good barrel rib, level topline, well muscled rear and good second thigh, nice tight feet, moved with drive, in excellent coat and condition.

Limit: (7,3) 1st Meredith’s Tweedledum Off the Record, BD, BOS. 3 year old black, handsome boy with dark eye and kind expression, lovely reach of neck into well angulated front, deep chested with a barrel rib, level topline, which he kept on the move, strong hindquarters which allowed him to move freely, good coat and otter tail, loved the outline and balance of this dog. 2nd Chapman’s Dasiypatch Jelly Tot J.W. 3 year old dark yellow, handsome and classic looking, well angled front and deep chested, short coupled and strong rear, great bone and feet, in good coat and condition, preferred the topline of 1 today. 3rd Quick and James’ Farnfield Crown Jewels.

Special Working Dog or Bitch: (1,0) Coode’s Warringah’s Gulwarra J.W., S.G.W.C., RBB, RBIS. 6 year old chocolate bitch with a lovely shaped head and kind expression, clean through neck, well laid back shoulders and good length of forearm, deep through chest and barrel rib, strong well-muscled hindquarters, thick double coat and otter tail, moved effortlessly around the ring, awarded RBIS for her honest and balanced outline.

Veteran Dog or Bitch: (9,4) 1st Harvey Major’s Sh.Ch. Linjor Cassanova J.W., Sh.C.M. 7 ½ year old yellow dog, handsome boy with kind eye and melting expression, well laid shoulders and good upper arm, level topline and well angled rear with second thigh, moved very well and looked to be enjoying his day! 2nd Frazer’s Silmarillion Lady Luthien. 8 ½ year old yellow bitch, dark yellow with feminine head and good pigment, well angled front and rear, good barrel rib and depth of chest, great coat and condition, very happy bitch who never stopped wagging her tail. 3rd Chapman’s Killanow Sentinel at Daisypatch.

 

BITCHES:

Minor Puppy: (3,1) 1st McKee’s Eminala’s Kaos. 6 month old pretty yellow, nicely balanced for a young puppy, good chest and topline, well angled stifle and hocks, in good coat and moved very well. 2nd Bentley’s Willow Rose for all Seasons. 7 month old black bitch, appealing head and eye, good reach of neck into well angulated shoulders and forearm, moved well, preferred topline and head of 1 today.

Puppy: (7,3) 1st Braddon’s Chyanhal Pendray in Trendlewood, BPB, 11 month old black, attractive feminine head, lovely reach of neck into well angled front, good topline and tail set, nice second thigh, very clean lines and balanced for her age, moved well around the ring, will mature nicely. 2nd Braddon’s Trendlewood Shape of You, 10 month old yellow, nicely put together with good bone, correct turn of stifle and rear angulation, tight feet and good coat, moved out well. Preferred the head of 1. 3rd Mills’ Jaybec Winter Wispa.

Junior: (4, 0) 1st Miles-Bevan’s Llanstinan Scallywag, 1 year old black, classic looking with a pretty head and attractive shaped eyes, good reach of neck  well proportioned body and well-muscled hindquarters, level topline, nicely shaped in outline, neat feet, moved around the ring with drive. 2nd Tatchell’s Smokeycot Nostalga Queen, 1 year old, yellow bitch, feminine head, clean neckline, into well angled front and nicely shaped through the body, moved well. 3rd Frazer’s Simarillion Gondolin.

Yearling: (7,1 )1st Jones’ Serengoch Solar Eclipse, 23 month old black, pretty feminine head with a lovely reach of neck into well placed shoulders, deep barrel rib, nicely angled through front and rear, good otter tail and tail set, tight feet, gave a nice picture when stood, moved well around the ring. 2nd Miles’ Llanstinan Adora, 17 month old chocolate, dark in colour, with correct eye colour, strong neck into well laid shoulders, deep brisket and ribs, well-muscled in rear with good second thigh, moved soundly around the ring, just preferred topline of 1. 3rd Wall’s Brynkellan Cleopatra.

Novice: (6, 1) 1st Kent’s Trewinnard Bespoke, 18 month old pale yellow with gorgeous head and melting expression, lovely angles through front and rear, clean lines, a little longer in coupling but still balanced for her age, she was a little nervous initially, but when she got moving I could not deny her the class, should mature well with time. 2nd Miles-Bevan’s Llanstinan Bernadette, dark yellow of 1 year, pretty head with good eye shape, well laid shoulders into deep chest and barrel rib, good turn of stifle and well-muscled second thigh, preferred outline of 1, was very attentive to her young handler.

Undergraduate: (11,3) 1st Braddon’s Chyanhal Pendray in Trendlewood, 2nd Miles-Bevan’s Llanstinan Scallywag, 3rd Davey’s Southridge Tolverne.

Graduate: (4,2) 1st Harrison’s Carpenny Philly at Likav, black bitch of 3 years, lovely type, pretty head, good reach of neck, balanced bitch with clean lines, nicely angulated from the front to rear, in good coat, moved around the ring with ease. 2nd Miles’ Llanstinan Evanescence, darker yellow of 4 years, a different type to 1, good angles front and rear, deep chested with good bone and neat feet, moved well.

Post graduate: (3,1) 1st Phillips’ Rowanhol Moon River at Sheenaron, 3 ½ year old yellow, attractive head, good reach of neck , well proportioned body and nice angles from fore to rear, good spring of rib, level topline, in good coat and condition, moved well around the ring. 2nd Nightingale’s Flyenpig Snazzy Sniffer, 5 year old black, pretty head, well angled front, deep chest and strong hindquarters, good otter tail, preferred the head and balance of 1.

Limit: (11,4) 1st Metcalfe’s Baileykin Barley Sugar for Baileydale, 2 year old yellow, lovely head and expression, clean neckline with a well angled front, deep through chest and a good barrel rib, level topline carried on the move, short coupled, excellent turn of stifle and strong hindquarters, moved very well, loved her maturity and outline for a youngster. 2nd Evans’ Farnfield Clarity, 4 year old yellow, feminine head with dark pigmentation and a kind eye, well angled through front and rear, deep chested, good tight feet and excellent double coat, moved with drive around the ring, just preferred the topline and substance of 1 today. 3rd Minchella’s Abbeystead Hope.

Open: (9,3) 1st Peggs’ Jancet Aurora, BB, BIS. 3 year old classic looking darker yellow bitch, beautiful feminine head with kind eye and expression, lovely reach of neck into well angled front, good depth through chest and barrel rib, compact body, strong hindquarters with good second thigh, flowing topline and a lovely clean outline when stood, moved with drive and purpose around the ring. She looked fit for function and I could not deny her the top spot. 2nd Braddon’s Trendlewood Silent Night. 8 ½  year old pale yellow bitch, feminine head with dark pigmentation, into strong neck and nicely angulated front, good depth of chest, short coupled, strong through rear which enabled her to drive well around the ring, in excellent coat, just preferred the cleaner lines of 1 today. 3rd Kent’s Trewinnard Picadilly.

Brace Dog or Bitch: (5,3) 1st Evans’ Farnfield Clarity and Eminala Bohemian Rhapsody, Yellow mother and son who were well matched, moved and stood well together, balanced pair of dogs.  2nd Bentley’s Abbeystead Puzzle and Willow Rose for All Seasons, Black mother and daughter, who also created a nice picture, stood well and moved ok together.
